Massachusetts Inmate Population is a private reference site, not a government office. We cannot confirm custody, release a person, post bond, schedule visits, send money, change a roster entry, or obtain official booking, court, or correctional records for you.
Where to Look First
Massachusetts custody records are split by legal status and agency. MA DOC directs state-prison lookup users to Mass.gov's inmate-finding instructions, which route to Massachusetts VINELink or the VINE phone line at 866-277-7477. County jail and house-of-correction records are handled by the county sheriff. Court charges, events, and dispositions are searched through Massachusetts court docket resources and MassCourts.
- For someone in a county jail or house of correction, start with the County Directory and then use the county's inmate records instructions.
- For booking-photo questions, use Jail Rosters & Mugshots and then contact the sheriff's records office if the photo is not posted.
- For charges filed after an arrest, use Court Records After Arrest and the MassCourts docket tools.
- For a named jail, prison, lockup, or treatment center, check the Facility Directory.
- For a sentenced state prisoner, use the MA DOC inmate search route through Mass.gov and VINELink.
- For federal custody, use the BOP inmate locator. For immigration detention, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System.
